Easily mistaken for a member of the public taking a well deserved rest, the bronze statue of Sir Simon Milton (1961-2011), sits on the steps by Paddington Basin. Milton was a Conservative politician and London’s Deputy Mayor for Policy and Planning under Boris Johnson.
Sir Simon Milton (1961-2011)
His key role during his last three years in post was to oversee the process of revising the London Plan, the mayor’s key document in guiding the future of the city. The outer boroughs of London were given new priority in the process. Milton had been knighted for services to local government in 2006. The statue by Bruce Denny (B.1967) can be found at the Paddington Basin development. It was unveiled in 2014 by the then communities secretary Eric Pickles.
Amazingly, this is one of five public memorials to Sir Simon in Central London!
