College Green – “Knife Edge Two Piece”

On the patch of grass opposite the Houses of Parliament, known as College Green (Abingdon Street Gardens), where many parliament-related TV broadcasts are made, there stands a Henry Moore bronze called “Knife Edge Two Piece”.

It is one of Moore’s earliest works in two pieces, a form that he started in 1959 and catalogued as LH516 . Four full sized casts of this piece were made between 1962 and 1965, the other three being in Kykuit, New York, Vancouver and in Moore’s own estate in Hertfordshire. The Westminster cast fell into disrepair and was restored in 2013 after it became part of the British Parliamentary Art Collection; it was granted a Grade II listing in January 2016.
