“Full Stop Slipstream“, a series of sculptures are sited just outside County Hall on the banks of the Thames near Tower Bridge.
The sculptures are by Fiona Banner (B.1966 in Liverpool), a Young British Artist who was short-listed for the Turner Prize in 2002. She had completed an MA at Goldsmiths College in London.
These five pieces “Mysteriously titled Slipstream, Optical, Courier, Klang and Nuptial, the precarious balance and glistening black of these leaning ellipses, imposing spheres and strange cross shapes intrigue and invite closer inspection. Each form is an accurate three-dimensional albeit vastly enlarged version of a full stop from a variety of commonly used typefaces which lend their names as titles for the sculptures.”
Banner’s work includes sculpture, drawing and installation but words form the core of her work, exploring the possibilities of language.
